Two prestigious contests – the 2021 Guiyang Vocational Colleges (Technical Colleges) Skills Competition and the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition – recently wrapped up in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province.
Jointly hosted by the Guiyang municipal education bureau and the Guiyang municipal bureau of human resources and social security, the two events aimed to boost local vocational skills, practical abilities, innovation capabilities, employment entrepreneurship and the career transformation potential of students in vocational colleges and technical colleges.
More than 10,000 teachers and students from 40 vocational colleges and technical colleges in Guiyang and the nearby Guian New Area participated in the events.

The skills competition covered 10 categories, including processing and manufacturing, civil engineering and water conservation. They also included transportation, information technology, finance and commerce, tourism services, textiles and food, medicine and health, culture and art, as well as education and sports.
The innovation and entrepreneurship competition set up a group for secondary vocational (technical) students, another for higher vocational students and a group for teachers.
After a month of reportedly strong competition, 10 outstanding organization awards and 15 organization awards were handed out in the skills competition. Another 111 first prizes, 244 second prizes and 604 third prizes were awarded in the students' group and 16 first prizes, 23 first prizes and 33 third prizes were handed out in the teachers' group.
In the innovation and entrepreneurship competition, 15 first prizes, 24 second prizes, 35 third prizes and 142 teacher guidance awards were conferred.
