To encourage more talent to stay in the city, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has offered subsidies to college graduates working in the city to help them rent homes, local media reported.
Those who graduated from universities within the last three years are entitled to apply for rental subsidies if they rent houses in Guiyang and have signed online tenancy agreements. The application period started on June 15.
Doctorate-degree holders will be given 9,600 yuan ($1,377.97), while those with a master's degree will be given 4,800 yuan and those with a bachelor's degree or graduating from a junior college will be given 2,400 yuan. The subsidies will be delivered to applicants' social security accounts one year after they rent homes.
College graduates can apply for the subsidies through an app called "Duocaibao", through which more than 20,000 people have already been approved for the subsidy.
Yang ShiJielun, who started working in Guiyang in 2021 after graduating from college, received the rental subsidy on Dec 13. He said that the subsidies provided by the local government benefit him and many other recent university graduates.
