Guiyang achieves top honors at provincial vocational skills competition

The second Guizhou Provincial Vocational Skills Competition concluded on May 19 in Bijie city. The Guiyang delegation achieved remarkable results, with 145 participants winning awards.

Guiyang ranked first in the province in both the number of gold medals and total medals won. This included 19 gold, 25 silver, 17 bronze, and 84 excellence awards.

This year's competition featured 95 skill categories, such as auto body repair, robot system integration, smart agricultural machinery, Guizhou-style cuisine, and elderly care.

The Guiyang delegation participated in all categories and secured gold in 16 events: tea art, industrial robot operation, industrial control, industrial design technology, internet marketing, concrete construction (team event), furniture making, hairdressing, beauty therapy, plastering and drywall systems, Western cooking, hand embroidery, digital construction, cybersecurity (team event), new energy battery testing, and autonomous mobile robotics (team event).

Gu Weiwei, representing the Qianjin Miao Ethnic Costume Shop in Huaxi district, Guiyang, won gold in hand embroidery. His winning piece was a tablet sleeve embroidered with butterfly and pomegranate patterns, blending traditional Miao elements and local embroidery techniques from Guizhou.

Gu currently holds the title of senior artisan in drawn-thread embroidery. He is dedicated to preserving and promoting Miao embroidery, having taught the craft at universities in Beijing and Xi'an.
