Guiyang strengthens efforts to attract talent

Guiyang in Southwest China's Guizhou province has continuously improved its full-chain talent policies covering recruitment, cultivation, utilization, and retention, resulting in a steadily growing talent pool and enhanced innovation capacity since the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).

A total of 569,000 college graduates have come to work and start businesses in Guiyang over the past five years.

Guiyang has also brought in 225,000 professionals in key sectors, including big data, manufacturing, and rural vitalization, providing strong support for industrial upgrading and high-quality development.

Innovation platforms have also expanded rapidly. The city has established 158 provincial- or national-level scientific and technological innovation platforms, registered 26,000 new technology contracts, and secured 60,000 authorized patents. Total social R&D investment increased from 7.4 billion yuan ($1.05 billion) to 12.4 billion yuan. It is now home to 176 national- and provincial-level experts, with its R&D workforce reaching 46,200 people.

Guiyang ranked 27th among 101 national innovative cities in innovation capacity and placed 25th among 296 major cities nationwide in emerging talent competitiveness in 2024.

Meanwhile, the city has continued to improve its talent services, offering more than 70,000 rental apartments at discounted prices for talent. Guiyang has been selected as one of China's first pilot cities for youth-friendly development and ranked among the top 50 cities nationwide for talent friendliness and the quality of its talent development ecosystem.
